The war in Ukraine has demonstrated that Russia has no respect for international law, and their recent show of force off the coast of Ireland is a reminder that in the event of war Ireland is vulnerable. We currently do not have the means to defend our Nation.
We cannot rely on PESCO (the European Defence Agency) and should not accept that we must give up our sovereignty by participating in that sham. In any case many of the former “Empires ” which today make up the European Union are the cause of the many wars happening today.
Joining NATO does not involve any loss of sovereignty. Every member state has a right to participate (or not) in the deployment of forces. But all give a commitment to defend each other in the event of hostile attacks by any other State..
We should join NATO immediately and begin to upgrade our defence capability.
